Bach wrote this little prelude for his oldest son. It is found in the ‘Keyboard Notebook for Wilhelm Friedmann Bach’. The standard notation transcription is available as a free download on my web site. My inspiration was the performance by AndrĂ© Benichou (“and his Well-Tempered Three”) on an old Nonesuch record (H-71069).

So far, I’m the only guitrist I know of who plays this Reinhold Gliere prelude – scores of 8-year-old piano students breeze through it in its original key (Db) elsewhere on YouTube. This performance – in the key of A – is about as breezy as I can accomplish at this point. Download a standard notation score, or link to W3ALi or the RosetteRoom, from my web site. The mirror scenes are from 8 years ago, when I experimented very briefly with the effect – one too many pareidolic monsters lurking in the center axis convinced me to conclude the mirror phase after only a week.

Maestro Tarrega transcribed this beautiful Chopin Prelude for guitar, but you don’t often hear his arrangement, as it’s in a somewhat offbeat key (G# Minor) and requires some hefty finger-stretches. My transcription is in E Minor. It’s faithful to the original piano score and well within performance range for any second-year student.. You can download a free score (standard notation only) from my web site.
